Sport Specific

Some of the Pony Club Sports provide their own sport-specific training practices, sessions and courses. These include Mounted Games, Pony Racing and Tetrathlon. Discover more of what each of them has to offer and how to get involved below.

Mounted Games

Study Days

What are Mounted Games Study Days?

Mounted Games Study Days are aimed to inform members, trainers and parents of the rules for the games to be played in that year. They are a great opportunity for everyone to see the new Area and Zone games for the forthcoming season and there is always a Pony Club Official on hand to answer any queries.

The National Study Day will count as a CPD for coaches and will be updated after the event for attendees automatically.

Becoming a Mounted Games Trainer

To start training a branch or centre team or pairs you will first need to be listed on the Pony Club Coaching Database. To achieve this you need to meet the Coaching criteria and liaise with the Branch District Commissioner or Centre Proprietor.

The Mounted Games Study Days can support Trainers (coaches) as CPD.

Pony Racing

 

Pony Racing CPD

Pony Racing ‘Train the Trainers Days’ are aimed to inform coaches of activities they can carry out with members to learn more about the sport (hopefully with the view to progressing to the Race Days).

The Days are run in conjunction with the Pony Racing Authority as part of the Pony Racing Pathway of activities.

 

Online Training

In 2023 the committee are pleased to start the Introduction to Pony Racing for coaches. This session is open to interested parents, coaches and those new to coaching.

The session focuses on explaining the sport and providing some fun interactive activities that can be carried out with members at rallies and camps to support gaining the Intro to Pony Racing Achievement Badge.

Tetrathlon

 

Tetrathlon Shooting Courses

Below are the accepted shooting courses to be a Pony Club Range Conducting Officer, and Shoot Instructor.

It is recommended that when hosting any Pony Club shooting, a qualified Range Conducting Officer (RCO) should be present. This is the person that is responsible for the safety of the shooting event. We also recommend that you have an NSRA qualified shooting instructor present as well. Please note that even with a qualified shoot instructor, the NSRA recommend that you also have an RCO present. The RCO will have the responsibility of following the shooting protocol which is detailed in the Pony Club Tetrathlon Rulebook.

There are two types of qualifications – a Range Conducting Officer (RCO) and a Shooting Instructor. The National Small-Bore Rifle Association (NSRA) are the Governing Body, and have worked with us to create a Pony Club Specific RCO Course.

To become an RCO you must be over 21 years of age.
